Welcome to the world renowned Sundar Kala Kendra Kathak Dance School specializing for the past 25 years in Kathak Dance - one of the most beautiful and in-depth Classical art forms of the world!

We are proud to be the only Kathak Dance School in the world whose Guru and Founder, Smt. Anjani Ambegaokar is the recipient of the prestigious National Endowments for the Arts: National Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award 2004 by President Bush for her lifelong commitment to sharing through performance, and educating through teaching the excellence of Kathak Dance in the US.

We look forward to sharing an exciting and truly invaluable life experience with you as we begin this journey of Kathak Dance together! Many of our students have begun at the tender age of 5 and have continued to excel in Kathak Dance leading to numerous opportunities including international touring with the professional cutting-edge Anjani’s Kathak Dance of India Dance Company to getting personal recommendations to the top Law, Business and Medical Schools in the country. With former Dance Company members as successful Artists, Doctors, Lawyers, Business Professionals, Professors and so many others, its easy to see how enriching this experience can truly be for you!

As a new student we have a few guidelines we ask you to follow to help create discipline for the class and schedule and as well a safe and fun environment to learning Kathak dance for all. Please review and follow these guidelines as they are vital to learning!

  1. Please wear an appropriate Salwar Kameez/Punjabi Dress or Kurta Pajama to class. Cotton is usually the most comfortable. Dupata is optional.
  2. Please provide your own set of Kathak Ghungroo or brass ankle bells strung with cotton cord either braided or knotted. These are available at:

    Please do not use Bharat Natyam Ghungroo which are brass bells linked together on a belt.

  3. Kathak Ghungroo sizing:
    • Beginning Children ages 4 - 10: 25 -50 bells on each ankle
    • Beginning Kids to Young Adults ages 11-17: 50-100 on each ankle
    • Beginning Adults ages 18 and up: 100 on each ankle.
    • Please note that we do not encourage wearing more bells than 108 on each ankle.
  4. Provide a pair of new or used athletic socks and bring them to the first class.
    • Please note that these will be cut and used as padding for the ankles.
  5. Please arrive a few minutes before class to wear Ghungroo (ankle bells).
  6. Do not wear shoes and bells together.
  7. Please wear hair tied back away and from the face.
  8. No gum chewing during class.

WEST LA SPRING 2008 FEE SCHEDULE

Annual Enrollment Fee - $25.00 per student
Due at initial registration and then annually from date of original registration

Quarterly Class Fee - $300.00 / 12 classes
Due by MARCH 14TH, 2008

A $15.00 late fee will be charged for payments made on March 16, 2008 or later.
Fees must be paid in full by the end of the class March 16, 2008 otherwise a $5.00 late fee for each class will be charged after the first class.

Class duration is one hour unless otherwise notified by teacher.

Classes will be made up if cancelled by SUNDAR KALA KENDRA.
No makeup classes are available if student is absent.
